April 13, 2011, Newburgh NY]------A New York mother of 4 reportedly piled all of her children into the family vehicle around 8:00p.m. on Tuesday night, drove to the Hudson River, where the eldest managed to escape before She drove the van into the cold city river. All 4 perished.

According to ABC News, the Newburgh mom had been involved in a domestic abuse situation just about 10 minutes before the shocking incident unfolded. The oldest, a 10 year old boy survived the traumatic ordeal of watching his mom and 3 siblings go into the dark, murky water.

The siblings were 2 brothers ages 2 and 5 and a baby sister only 11 months old.

Police say the boy managed to hit the power button and escaped through a window of the minivan. He reportedly walked to a firehouse to get help but by the time the response team arrived at the river, it was too late to save anyone.

Firefighters and other rescue personnel allegedly searched for more than an hour before finding all four bodies submerged in 10 feet of water about 25 yards from the shore.

The woman's family is said to have resided only about 6 blocks from the fatal plunge. No names have been released as yet.

Newburgh Fire Chief Michael Vatter, said in a press conference held Wednesday April 13, that the surviving child, 10 year old Lashaun Armstrong, escaped through the window of the sinking van and bravely swam ashore, where a good Samaritan took him to the firehouse to get help.

Cheif Vatter said that Lashaun told them that his mother told he and his siblings they were all going to die together.

His deceased mother has been identified as 25 year old Lashanda Armstrong and her children, 11 month old Laianna Pierre, 2 year old Lance Pierre and 5 year old Landon Pierre.

A relative told the New York Times that 10 year old Lashaun Amstrong is doing well, considering his harrowing ordeal.

Relatives also say Lashanda had been having a difficult time lately and had been distraught over her boyfriend's alleged cheating.
