The Republican Party's Obama Derangement Syndrome just keeps spreading.

RawStory.com tells us that Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) was recorded recently as saying that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is “racist” because it forces white people to pay more to use tanning beds.

This pronouncement by the congressman followed his earlier revelation that he had co-sponsored a “birther” bill because its passage would “get rid of everything” that President Barack Obama has accomplished.

As reported by Raw Story, Yoho spoke at a town hall meeting in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday. Yoho told the crowd that Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) will soon introduce a bill which would set up a serious and comprehensive investigation into the president's citizenship status – that is, whether or not he was actually born in the United States. And, if not, then his whole presidency has been illegitimate and everything that he has done as president can be negated, eliminated, done away with.

But, even though Yoho will co-sign onto this new “birther” push, he did have some misgivings. “Is that where we should be spending our time?” he asked the audience.

“But I’m going to check into that,” Yoho continued. “Because in order to have freedom, you have to have economic freedom. And our country is at $17 trillion in debt. We need to change the dynamics of that. We need a paradigm shift on our spending.

“So we can go over here [the birther investigation] and it can be another distraction. But if it is truly illegal, he shouldn’t be there and we can get rid of everything he’s done. And I said I agree with that.” (Emphasis added. Notice that Yoho refers to President Obama as “it”).

And, as evidenced by their now-40 attempts to repeal Obamacare, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives obviously believes that implementation of Obamacare represents the end of civilization as we know it.

But as indicated above, and as the Washington Post reports, Yoho has come up with a completely novel rationale for turning back the new health care program. Embedded within the new law, he says, is a tax on tanning beds which only white people will be forced to pay, rendering the whole law racist against people who do not have dark skin. Yoho then recounted a conversation he had about this matter with the House Majority Leader:

“I had a little fun with [John] Boehner and told him about the sun tanning tax. He goes, ‘I didn’t know it was in there,’ and I said, ‘Yes, it’s a 10 percent tax. He goes, ‘Well, that’s not that big of a deal.’ I said, ‘It’s a racist tax.’ He goes, ‘You know what, it is.’”

To break his point down so that everyone understood precisely what was happening, Yoho then said:

“I had an Indian doctor in our office the other day, very dark skin, with two non-dark skin people, and I asked this to him, I said, ‘Have you ever been to a tanning booth?’ and he goes, ‘No, no need.’ So therefore it’s a racist tax, and I thought I might need to get to a suntanning booth so I can come out and say I’ve been disenfranchised because I got taxed because of the color of my skin.

“As crazy as that sounds, that’s what the left does right. By God, if it works for them, it’ll work for us.”

I could not make this stuff up if I tried. And I've been known to write a fairly good fictional short story from time to time.

If one adds to Yoho's new idea about the racist nature of Obamacare the notion by a number of prominent Republicans to shut down the entire government rather than fund the new law, then the Obama Derangement Syndrome becomes clear.

And their pit-bull tenacity over the “legitimacy” of Obama's birthplace indicates that we are dealing with not just an ordinary, run-of-the-mill derangment syndrome, but with mentally deranged folk on a mass scale.

Their flat-out refusal to accept the results of two consecutive presidential elections fairly and legally won by Obama has simply, plainly driven them crazy. Yes, yes. They believe that Obama won. But they cannot understand nor accept it. Why not, you ask? These people have never had to take orders from, pay homage to, or show deference to anybody who was not of their own “race.”

The cognitive dissonance is palpable. It is also dangerous. It is dangerous because these people do wield actual power over the rest of us.

Indeed, they are capable of and will quite willingly sink the entire ship of state, taking us all down with them, rather than submit to the rule of this black man, this foreign black man, this other.
