This piece may seem partisan, but it isn't.

It isn't to urge folks not to vote for a Republican this year, but it is intended to explain to people why electing W. Mitt Romney president in 2012 might be the absolute worst thing that could ever happen to the American middle class.

I'm no fan of Newt Gingrich, but I think he may have done America a great service when one of his PACs produced a 28-minute film called "When Mitt Romney Came to Town."

The film is probably going to cost front-runner Romney the GOP nomination. If it doesn't, it will certainly cost him the general election.

Why? Because when it comes down to it, Romney is a slicker, better-packaged version of 19th century robber baron Jay Gould, who is famous for saying that he could hire one-half of the working class to kill the other half.

My guess is that the film will end up being the proverbial straw, because Romney has already begun imploding on the campaign trail. Quotes explaining why corporations are people and why he likes firing people who provide services to him are already hurting him.

Let's be fair. The "firing" quote was about being unhappy with his health insurance and firing that company in favor of another one. But even that shows how out of touch Romney is. Do you know anyone in the working class who has that option?

Not me. I feel damned lucky to have health insurance, and I'm not about to gamble on switching companies, even if I could.

Maybe if I had the estimated $264 million net worth Romney does, I might feel differently.

The quotes are strictly small-time when it comes to Mitt's weaknesses. As CEO of Bain Capital, a go-go-go investment firm, he was famous for buying companies, stripping them of their assets, loading them with debt from other endeavors and then letting them tank.

His efforts made millions for rich investors while eliminating the jobs of thousands of middle- and working-class people in every state in the union.

Watch the film, and you'll understand why Romney cannot be president. His quote several times in the movie about a lot of people getting hurt when you build up the economy proves that he lacks any human compassion for the people whose lives he destroyed.

This is not written to urge people to vote for President Obama. Indeed, if you dislike Obama, you ought to be hoping for anyone other than Romney to be the nominee.

Remember, we never elected Jay Gould or any of the other robber barons president.

Whyen you make money your first priority, especially the way Romney has, you're telling people that you are a rich man first and an American second.

Want real irony? Imagine someone who gives Newt Gingrich the chance to take the high moral ground.
